embrace curiosity: asking “why”
"I have no special talent, I am just passionately curious." – Albert Einstein
As a Consultant, my role revolves around asking thought-provoking questions like "why" and "what if." Listening, challenging assumptions, and seeking answers are all part of my job description. Embracing curiosity is at the core of what I do.
But what does it really mean to be curious?
Curiosity is that strong desire to know or learn something new, to explore the unknown.
In our childhood, curiosity comes naturally to us. As we grow older, however, fears of being judged, ostracized, or being wrong start to creep in. Peer pressure urges us to conform and fit in.
However, curiosity is what fuels our thirst for knowledge, driving us to learn more and seek answers to questions we never even knew to ask.
To be curious is to possess a boundless imagination—to envision a world beyond what we see, to explore the endless possibilities.
In my previous post titled "The Creative Type," I shared a story about my kindergarten teacher who asked the class what they wanted to be when they grew up. My first answer was "artist," but she nudged me towards a different choice. So, I secretly vowed to be both an artist and my second option, a teacher, while avoiding any conflict by not questioning her.
Years later, having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and fulfilling my dream of being both an artist and a teacher, I found myself wondering, "What's next?" I craved growth and knew that I wanted to explore new avenues.
Considering pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA), I observed peers with their master's degrees attaining similar opportunities and jobs as those with just an undergraduate degree. After extensive discussions with friends who had their MFAs, I realized that institutionalized education didn't align with my vision for my art practice. If I wanted my work to resonate with daily interactions and have an impact in the present, investing years of my life in school seemed counterproductive. I wanted to be in control of my path and continue learning while surrounding myself with like-minded individuals.
That's when entrepreneurship, service design, and business development caught my attention.
Curiosity led me down a path of transformation—to change how we think, work, learn, and teach by infusing creativity into every aspect of my life. My ultimate goal is to utilize my existence as a platform to demonstrate the power of creativity and how it can pave the way to success.
I encourage you to embrace your curiosity and use it to share ideas, solve problems, take risks, and ask questions.
